One of the best things about living in a city as large as London is that there is something here for everyone. You can find pretty much any food you can think of or class or activity. People who live here come from all over the world, and it reflects the many different interests and talents of all those different people.
Sometimes that variety borders on absurd. Such is the case for Junkyard Golf Club. This place is absolutely ridiculous and absolutely ridiculously fun. Essentially, it is a giant warehouse that contains a collection of four different themed mini golf courses with bars, music and flashing lights.
We bought tickets the weekend before we checked it out and even a week in advance our options were limited because times and courses started selling out. We got two tickets for the Bruce course at 5:20pm.
Walking in, I wasn’t sure what to expect. It was dark, somewhat loud and somewhat crowded. It was all young people, some of whom were definitely dressed for the night ahead. To get our course, we wound through the warehouse, passing by bird installations and disco balls.
We got our clubs and balls and a drink at the bar (Andrew ordered me the Golf of Mexico) and hit the links! Our course was themed after movie names turned into puns. It was crazy, but awesome!
The courses are whacky, so it takes a combination of skill and luck to get through the course in any sort of timely fashion. Let it be known that I, the basic bon vivant, got not one but TWO holes in one. Yes, indeed. Andrew and I tied for the course overall. I would say he had more of the skill whereas I had more luck and we both had a great time.
Originally, a coworker had told me about the club and said it was the most hipster place he’d ever been. He wasn’t kidding. It is as kitchsy as they come, with each course named after a pun. Graffiti, old cars and craft beer round out the hipsterness. For a night out, this is an awesome place to check out, then you can grab a delicious dinner right next door on Brick Lane. Shoreditch, done right!
